Overview
Canberra author, Jennifer Barton, and illustrator Patricia Wilkinson, have combined to tell the story of two dogs, Boswell and Deefa, who see lots of wombat pooh on Nanna’s farm. The dogs are mystified that they never get to see a wombat, so they decide to investigate. They walk and run and splash their way around the farm asking all sorts of animals and birds “Have you seen any wombats today?” The story introduces young readers to lizards, echidnas, goannas, kookaburras, cockatoos, rosellas and possums. And it’s Mrs Possum who finally explains the mystery of the missing wombat — “possums and wombats like to sleep all day and stay up ALL NIGHT!” The story finishes with Boswell out at night on a wombat hunt.

Jennifer Barton (author) and Patricia Wilkinson (illustrator) live in Canberra. Jennifer is the author of “You Can’t Eat Scenery”, a history of Wee Jasper, a small hamlet on the banks of the Burrunjuck Dam to the west of Canberra. Both Jennifer and Patricia are working on a new children’s book “Puggle in Trouble” which is about the trouble a baby echidna gets into when it decides to leave its burrow to explore the world before it is old enough. An easy to sing, easy to remember song is built into the “Wombat Pooh”, which is suitable for pre-schoolers and first graders.
